The Early Childhood Center (ECC) is the lab school for CSU's Human Development and Family Studies program. The program purchased the Washington Elementary School building (built in the late 1800s) from the City of Fort Collins and applied for multiple grants to renovate the building and the site.
While working for Colorado State University, Jon Altschuld designed the site renovations and play area. The play area was designed to incorporate the school's Reggio-Emilia teaching/development style into every element. This style focuses on learning by discovery and direct contact with natural elements.
